Yaqeen Institute, in partnership with UWaterloo MSA and Islamic Relief Canada, is honoured to host Dr. Nazir Khan (Islam and the Philosophy of Science) and Sr. Safiah Chowdhury (Muslim Women’s History).

Dr. Nazir Khan is a Diagnostic Neuroradiologist at the Hamilton General Hospital and Assistant Professor at McMaster University. Dr. Khan is the Director of Research at Yaqeen Institute, a volunteer imam in the Muslim community, and a consultant for the Manitoba Fiqh Committee with traditional certification (ijāzah) in ʿAqīdah, Ḥadīth, and ʿUlūm al-Qur’an.

Safiah Chowdhury received her MPhil in Islamic Studies and History from the University of Oxford. Her thesis looked at the changing site of Sunni political authority. While at Oxford, Safiah served on the executive of the Oxford University Islamic Society. Safiah holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies and Global Development Studies from Queen’s University. Presently, Safiah works in social policy, program, and service design focused on poverty reduction.
