President Sabiha Syed

About Me: I am in my final (InshaAllah Khair!) year of Fine Arts. I work in a variety of mediums; watercolour, acrylic and mixed media are my favourites. I enjoy drawing, doodling, sketching and painting. My other hobbies include, reading, babysitting, and baking!

Why did I join the MSA? I got voluntold to lead a sisters social group in winter 2014 and I’ve stuck around ever since. Being a part of the MSA has significantly improved my university experience and help me understand my deen better.

Words of Wisdom

“Know that a man floating on a piece of wood in the sea is not in more need of God and His kindness than a person in his home, sitting between his family and property. When this meaning becomes ingrained in your heart, then rely on God like a drowning man who knows not any other means to salvation but God.”

—  Ibn Qudamah

About Me: I’m studying Mechatronics Engineering, currently in my 4A term. I’m a proud perfectionist and I enjoy watching and playing Tennis.

Why did I join the MSA? As Muslims, it is our duty to look after our community. As such, I joined the MSA with a passion of improving the lives of Muslims both on and off campus in our community. I’ve been a part of the MSA since Spring 2013, by starting off in the Ramadan Committee, being an exec 3 times, and helping with the First Years Committee. I am especially passionate about helping incoming first year students and providing them a community they can call home away from home, ensuring their well-being and welcoming them to the MSA and its services.

Words of Wisdom
There will come a time where you will have the opportunity to contribute to the MSA in your time at UW, but you will be tempted to pass on the opportunity in fear of it interfering with your academic workload and other activities. I advise you not to give that opportunity up, because you will miss out on a truly unique experience, both spiritually and socially, and will definitely regret it when you look back at your UW experience.

About Me: I’m in my 3A term and I’m studying Sociology.
I’m obsessed with sunflowers and baking, and I’m probably the shortest person you’ll ever meet.
Why did I join the MSA? I love being involved in the Muslim community and working alongside individuals who wish to strive for the sake of Allah (swt). My main focus is promoting diversity and how together, we are able to contribute to the growth and strength of our community.

Words of Wisdom

And never say of anything “Indeed, I will do that tomorrow, except [when adding] if Allah wills.” [18:23-24]

Education Officer Ayana Kawe

Education Officer Ayana Kawe

About Me: Salam guys, my name is Ayana Kawe and I’m a second-year student studying Life Sciences. My interests include school, pizza, bad jokes, and basketball. Islam has a special place in my heart and I try to make sure it influences my decisions in every aspect of my life!
Why did I join the MSA? In some way or another I’ve always had an urge to serve Allah through the service of people and the MSA seemed like a great outlet for me. In addition to that I found that there are just a whole lot of high quality people in the MSA – the type of people who you would want to befriend and associate yourself with – and that drove me to stay involved in the organization.

Words of Wisdom

Major Key:

“Race toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth, prepared for those who believed in Allah and His messengers. That is the bounty of Allah which He gives to whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty.”

Surah Hadid, Ayah 21

About Me: I’m a second year student studying Kinesiology. My interests include poetry, studying, and being sarcastic.
Why did I join the MSA? Honestly, I wasn’t planning on joining the MSA, but as the months went on, all of my friends became members. I slowly realized that the MSA was filled with like-minded people, and I fit right in.

Words of Wisdom

[وَمَا تَوْفِيقِي إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ۚ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ – [11:88
My success is only through Allah. Upon Him, I have relied, and to Him I return.

Why did I join the MSA?  I joined MSA because I strongly believe that as Muslims we’re obligated to use our personal assets to benefit others and serve the community. I look forward to working with this exec team to create an even more welcoming, fun, and spiritually replenishing environment for the UW-MSA, insha Allah.

Words of Wisdom

Treasurer Hajar El-Sadaany

Treasurer Hajar El-Sadaany

About Me: Salam everyone! I’m a fourth year student in FARM (Financial Analysis and Risk Management – I know it’s a long name, sorry). I’m a people person who can talk your ear off but also a heavy number cruncher. Also, I’m very open and an excellent listener, so if you ever need to talk or hangout, I’m your gal.
Why did I join the MSA?   I joined the MSA to become more active in the Muslim Society. Basically, I wanted to meet more Muslim people and create meaningful connections. Once I did that, I realized how valuable these relationships are, and I want to help others feel comfortable and included in the Muslim community.

Words of Wisdom

When in doubt, when stressed, when tired, when happy, or basically at any time, pray two rakahs –  the best medicine, support, and form of comfort
