The transition from high school to university is a big step forward in terms of workload. If you graduated from a public Ontario high school, you’ll probably find that you’ll be crushed if you try to get by from pure memory like you used to. Likewise, if you come from a country with more rigorous schooling you may face language barriers and the emphasis on presentation skills may be holding you back. UW has plenty of resources to help you out:
- Counselling Services Study Skills Package – this online study skills package tells you about good study habits in nine areas and provides practical tips you can incorporate into your daily study routine. Check them out here: http://www.adm.uwaterloo.ca/infocs/study/index.html
- Workshops – Counselling Services’ also provides a number of useful workshops on Taking Notes, Stress Management, Preparing for Exams, etc. Check out their workshops listed in the left navigation panel and register: http://www.adm.uwaterloo.ca/infocs/workshops/study.html
