About
Overview
The MSA Mentorship program has two goals:
1) To create opportunities that allow upper-year students to share their experiences with and provide advice to students in first-year and act as a link to resources and people.
2) To build networks between first-year students to aid in forming of study groups and social networks.
We aim to design events and program that embody the spirit of balancing the dunya and the deen. Events that remind us to relentlessly pursue our personal goals while retaining our identities as Muslims. To achieve these goals, we stay focused on our three central pillars when designing events: Academics, Extracurriculars and Being Muslim on campus.
Sample events we hope to plan in the future:
Academics: Tutoring sessions, Course selection advice
Career: Resume critique, Mock interviews
Social: Bowling nights, Sports days, Dinners with your mentor
How it all works
Each first year student who signs up for the program is paired with an upper year mentor from the same program or faculty. At the term’s kickoff event, mentors and mentees get a chance to know each other and get introduced to the program. While the Mentorship Team organizes one or two additional events throughout the term, between events, mentors and mentees are responsible for staying connected whether that’s through casual coffee breaks, study sessions, or joining an extracurricular team together.
